VTSAX equivalency Dr Mr Money Mustache, I’m looking to move my 403B at work through fidelity into something similar to VTSAX. The only work options Including VFTSX, VFFSX, VMSPX, VSCPX or FAMLX. VTSAX is not one of the available options. Are any of the others comparable? Also, is VTI the equivalent of VTSAX?

VTSAX is market weighted, so the amount of stock it holds for each company corresponds to that company's share of the total index. Percentage ownership of a given company isn't a consideration. You own the same percentage of the publicly available shares of every company in the US (for vtsax). Percentage ownership is the only consideration.

VTI, VTSMX, VTSAX Regarding #3. Vanguard might not charge if you sell VTI and buy VTSMX, but the gains will still be taxed. Besides that, this advice is spot on. Buy VTI, and keep buying until you have $3k, then either convert (paying taxes on the gains), or stick with VTI for the long haul. Personally, I'd convert, since mutual funds are much less hassle.

VTSAX is only invested in the US stock market. VTIAX is invested in the rest of the world. If you want to put all your eggs in the US basket, you can invest it all in VTSAX.
